Spring is such a revitalizing time of year. Gorgeous flowers, lush green grass, and fragrant blossoming trees all lure me outside. Yesterday, I went to the annual art fair in Wilder Park in Elmhurst, Illinois. What a delight! This art fair is entirely wheelchair accessible; most of the art is set up along wide paths where people can comfortably observe each artist's work. Wilder Park is located adjacent to the Elmhurst Public Library and the Elmhurst Art Museum. The park proudly states on signs that it is a poo-free park, so rest assured, dog owners do pick up after their dogs. My favorite art work was the jewelry made out of shards of fine china and other dishes. In particular, there were pendants created out of flatware from Scotland. These were stunning. The designs on the pendants included an eclectic mix of Asian and European architecture. I had never seen pendants made out of shards of dishes, so this was a unique experience. In addition to the artwork, there were tented stations for different local businesses selling some of their food and drinks. Brewpoint Coffee featured some of their pastries and beverages. If you remember, I wrote about Brewpoint Coffee in yesterday's post. I stopped by to say hello to the owners.
After the art fair I decided to visit Addison, Illinois where there is an excellent family-run gelateria called Gelato D'Oro. There is nothing like sitting outside watching the sun set and the moon rise, and enjoying a large dish of homemade gelato. All of the gelato in this gelateria is made from scratch by the owner. Impressive! I bet you want to know which flavors I enjoyed yesterday evening. I will not keep you in suspense. The flavors include: Cherry vanilla, banana nutella, pistachio, and hazelnut. I bet you have no doubts that I enjoyed my gelato. Notice, pistachio pops up again; I was writing about pistachio croissants and pistachio cupcakes from Courageous Bakery in yesterday's post. Yesterday was a completely satisfying day in all respects, and I think I did experience sensory overload with all of the beautiful artwork, the gorgeous outdoor springtime setting, and the scrumptious gelato.
One important note is that Gelato D'Oro is no longer in Addison, IL. I am unsure if they have relocated. Here is their Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/gelato.doro/
